Whoever said that big things
come in small packages, knew
exactly what they were talking
about, and may have previously
met Lloyd ‘Lloyde’ Jno Baptiste.
Standing at 5 feet 5 inches
tall, Jno Baptiste literally
controls the stage and uses
every inch of its surface for
his lively presentations.
Lloyde’s rise to his present
notoriety was far from easy.
Following a brief stint as lead
vocalist for one of Dominica’s
leading bands (The First
Serenade Band),
Lloyde made a
decision that would totally
change the future of his musical
career.
Although
Lloyde has acknowledged
from the onset that it would not
be easy, he is determined to
have a successful solo career.
Due to his lively persona and
versatility, soca has proven to
be the perfect genre for his
rise to prosperity. The genre of
soca music was introduced to him
from a young age while being in
the northern Trinidadian
community of La Pastora, Santa
Cruz. That particular genre of
music seemed to appeal to him as
his Trinidadian connections
still play a big role in the
development of his music. When
asked about his motivations on
stage, he explained that it was
simply having the opportunity to
expose his talents to locals and
visitors. He considers his times
on stage as the most exciting
for him as he feeds off the
energy and love from the crowd
While
Lloyde’s future seems
bright for the moment, there is
no certainty as to where his
career would head from here. He
has recently collaborated with a
top Grenadian artiste, in order
to gain additional recognition
and experience under his belt.
His collaboration with Grenadian
artiste Tall Pree has resulted
in two songs which are coming
out in the summer for Grenada’s
carnival which is in August,
2008.
Though not confirmed,
Lloyde is hoping to expose his
talents at various international
events this year. He has not
ruled out the Labor Day
Celebrations and Carnival in
Houston as two of his US stops.
Lloyde is currently looking to
create more hit singles and
collaborations with other soca
artistes both locally and
abroad.
