Brotherz of Destiny

The
‘Brotherz of Destiny’ (a.k.a.
B.O.D) band was formulated on
March 1st 2002,
originating from the village of
Mahaut (a.k.a. “The village that
never sleeps”) in the beautiful
Commonwealth of Dominica (a.k.a.
‘The ‘Nature Island’), located
in the West Indies.
The band essentially evolved as
a few young men ‘on fire for
God’ who always had that special
love for gospel music. They
regularly attended various local
concerts as a group and always
wished that one day they would
be the ones on stage proclaiming
the gospel through their music.
There was that unique moment in
November of 2003 when some of
the band members decided to go
to Antigua to attend ‘The
Recharge Concert’ featuring
popular Jamaican gospel artist
‘Prodigal Son’; this experience
was so inspirational to the
members.
Interestingly, many of the band
members had that great love for
music; however, they did not
have any theoretical or even
practical knowledge about music
and playing various instruments;
their zeal for God and the love
of music was their only driving
force leading them on a path
which they did not know where it
would lead them to.
One night after one of their
local youth meeting services,
the guys came together and
decided to try out a song from
Sherwin Gardner that they loved
so dearly. Each one took a hold
of an instrument that they
loved; the rest was history.
Their breakthrough came about
when one night after performing
at their church, God inspired
their pastor and he anointed and
prophesied over the group
saying, “God has called you to
be men of destiny”, and this is
how the name ‘Brotherz of
Destiny’ was coined.
To them their first gig just
seemed like yesterday. It took
place in the summer of 2002 at
the Peoples Pentecostal Family
Church (Dominica) when they were
hosting their annual “God’s
Anointed New Generation (GANG)”
youth conference; this was a
very memorable and inspirational
moment for the band.
Soon after, they began writing
their own songs and playing
regularly at various local
church youth meetings and
concerts. Much of their
inspiration throughout their
initial stages was credited to
gospel artists such as Sherwin
Gardner, Israel and New Breed,
The Recharge Crew, Chevelle
Franklyn, Jadee, Endtime
Singers, Lion of Judah,
Christafari, Prodigal Son, Jai,
D.J Nicholas, Jason Mighty, Mr.
Lynx, Marvin Sapp and many more.
A significant amount of their
support initially came from
their local church assembly;
however, as they started
ministering throughout the four
corners of Dominica and gaining
exposure, they quickly won the
support of the youths around the
island; therefore developing a
significant local fan base.
Throughout its years of
proclaiming the gospel of Jesus
Christ through music, B.O.D has
essentially crossed over
significant hurdles along the
way, which God has in return
used as stepping stones for its
ministry.
In 2005, B.O.D was awarded by a
local church for being one of
the most consistent gospel
groups in the island of
Dominica. Notably, throughout
its years of existence, B.O.D
has been called upon to minister
at numerous local gospel events.
B.O.D has ministered twice at
the “Zion Praise Gospel
Explosion” concert which is
presently the most prestigious
annual gospel concert event in
Dominica, which hosts popular
local and regional gospel
artists and bands, and has been
in existence for four years now.
They have also ministered on
numerous occasions at Dominica’s
annual “Dance-A-Thon” festival,
which has been one of the most
prestigious gospel dance
festivals here on island; this
festival has hosted dancers from
all over the Caribbean and
gospel artists such as Sherwin
Gardner and DJ. Nicholas. Over
the years, B.O.D have shared
stage alongside popular gospel
artists such as Mr. Lynx, Sean
Daniel, Jadee, St. Matthew,
Emrand Henry, Que and others at
various local concerts. Such an
experience has essentially paved
the way and opened many doors
for the band.
In 2006 B.O.D hosted its first
ever gospel concert under the
theme “U SAVED”; this concert
was a tremendous blessing to
many who attend and because it
was so nice, they decided to do
it twice, by hosting “U SAVED 2”
the following year. At B.O.D’s
“U SAVED” concerts, the band
have essentially brought forth
many of its original songs, and
have used this opportunity to
emphasize to the public the
importance of being saved.
B.O.D comprises of a group of
young individuals from diverse
backgrounds who have realized
that God has called them because
they are young and strong;
therefore, they have decided to
use this energy to proclaim the
gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost
world in deist need of the
savior Jesus Christ. B.O.D’s
love for the youth has propelled
them to target many of their
songs at encouraging the youth
to serve God, and allowing them
to realize that Christianity was
not meant to be boring, and
indeed it is not a boring thing.
Its members have dedicated their
lives to ministering the gospel
of their Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ through their music, as
He has commissioned them to
“preach the gospel throughout
the world”.
Interestingly, B.O.D started of
as an all male band; however,
over the years it has evolved
into a unique mix of both male
and female members. At times
people may wonder, why the name
‘Brotherz of Destiny’ when there
are female counterparts involved
in the group. Essentially, the
term ‘Brotherz’ when being
affiliated with this group
defines a unified group of
individuals coming together with
one common goal. That common
goal by which B.O.D is so
distinctly identified by
involves proclaiming the gospel
of Jesus Christ through its
music to a world in dying need
of salvation.
B.O.D comprises a total of eight
members; five male and three
female. Its male band members
include: Mr. Cuthbert Maronie
(Keyboard player/ Band Leader);
Mr. Clinton Maronie (Bass
Player/ Executive Member); Mr.
Joel Daniel (Lead Singer/
Executive Member); Mr. Bert
Thomas (Keyboard Player) and Mr.
Kenrick Lawrence (Drummer). Its
female band members include: Ms.
Jenillia Maronie (Lead Singer/
Backup Singer/ Executive
Member); Ms. Shari Pascal
(Backup Singer/ Executive
Member) and Ms. Josian Augiste
(Backup Singer).
The versatility of the band’s
backup singers has allowed them
to take the lead singing roles
in a number of B.O.D’s songs;
while the musical bond which has
developed among its musicians
has made it much easier for them
to do what they do best, play
music.
Though music may not be a
fulltime career for any of the
B.O.D band members, they are
constantly working on new
material which ranges from
genres such as, and not limited
to reggae, dancehall, soca,
bouyon music, reggaeton, rhythm
& blues.
Presently, B.O.D has so much in
perspective as they are
continuing to minister all over
the island of Dominica, while
still remaining focused on
beginning work on their first of
many gospel albums. B.O.D band
members are very optimistic
about brining out their first
ever project in the soonest
possible time, as many of their
fans are eagerly awaiting their
first ever gospel album release.
Equally, another significant
focus for B.O.D in the near
future will be to extend the
borders of its ministry
throughout the region and also
international. The band does not
want to limit its ministry to
the island of Dominica only;
they want to go throughout the
world proclaiming the good news
that “Jesus Saves” to the
millions dying out there.
B.O.D has so many good things
planned for the future; however,
they will continue to wait on
God and allow Him to lead and
guide them because “In His time,
He makes all things beautiful”.
B.O.D’s ultimate goal will be to
continue working in God’s
vineyard because, “The harvest
truly is plenteous, but the
labourers are few” (Matt. 9:37).
